Costa Rica. Worth a Return Trip

It’s not likely that we will ever again visit Costa Rica, but of the places we have been, it is the one to which we would return.

One of the first democracies in Central America, its location provides for enviable biodiversity and access to both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. They believe themselves to be so strategically important that they have no army, preferring to finance education instead. I sure hope they are right. Their health care attracts expatriates and those looking for less expensive, more available elective surgeries. Their leadership has moved the country into greater economic diversity, adding service support for Amazon and Walmart and other industries to the anticipated tourism and food export businesses.

Bob finally got his horseback ride, and I spent the morning in a mangrove swamp with crocodiles, monkeys and birds too numerous to count.
Other than that, we are spending our days reading, photographing and taking naps. While there are definitely older folks, we do seem to be among the elders.

The ubiquitous banana flower. The wild banana is mostly filled with large, hard seeds, we were told.
Frigate birds resting. The males have red throats. There were many trees filled with frigate birds or cormorants.
